Bandai Namco Entertainment announced that it had acquired a minority stake in Limbic Entertainment for an unknown amount. The Germany-based development studio is known for the ‘Might & Magic’ series with Ubisoft, strategy game Tropico 6, and Memories of Mars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bandai Namco’s acquisition of a minority stake in Limbic occurred in December 2020. Earlier, the company completed its takeover of Reflector Entertainment<\/a> in September last year. Prior to the acquisitions, the studio has been actively talking about creating more content outside its home turf in Japan. The recent acquisitions of Reflector and Limbic Entertainment fall in line with the studio’s strategic endeavors of its “key priority of creating and owning more IPs.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked about Bandai Namco and Limbic plans post-acquisition, Stephan Winter, Limbic\u2019s CEO, said that Bandai Namco’s investment in Limbic would give his studio the added support, capabilities, and the resources to grow and develop more games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There was a natural fit from the moment we first met the BNEE team. This collaboration gives us the support, capabilities, and resources to continue to develop and grow our studio. We are excited for the next chapter of Limbic Entertainment and couldn’t be more thrilled to share the journey with BNEE as we work together on two fantastic new projects,\u201d Winter said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Following this deal, Limbic will develop two new franchises for the Japanese game developer and publisher. The company currently has over 80 employees, and it is working with Limbic to create a cross-media franchise titled ‘Unknown 9.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The seasoned teams have shown their talents in the past on the various titles they have been working on, with Tropico 6 being their latest success. They will be working on two new franchises. Limbic Entertainment fits perfectly within the strategy we set out for Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe a few years ago and allows us to keep growing the output of new IP from studios tied to BNEE,” Arnaud Muller, Bandai Namco’s COO, commented.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
