On Friday, 24, Stellaris Infinite Legacy, a board game based on the Stellaris series by Paradox Interactive<\/a>, has raised \u00a31 million in crowdfunding on Kickstarter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tabletop game is the latest board game to receive funding on Kickstarter this year, and the game managed to reach this remarkable feat in less than 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crowdfunding campaign for Stellaris Infinite Legacy became live at 4 pm GMT on the day before Thursday. As of writing this report, the game has raised over \u00a31.5 million ($2 million), which far exceeds its expected funding goal of \u00a337,000 ($50,000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stellaris Infinite Legacy games have been jointly developed by the Stockholm, Sweden-based games studio and the tabletop game specialist Academy Games. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to Stellaris Infinite Legacy, the Swedish firm has already unveiled its intention to develop board games based on its own titles, such as Crusader Kings, Hearts of Iron, Europa Universalis, and Cities: Skylines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent times, board games based on video games have grown to become a lucrative category for crowdfunding. For instance, recently, a tabletop game based on Wolfenstein raised $480,000 in April 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, tabletop games and accessories accumulated close to $233 million on Kickstarter<\/a>, accounting for almost a third of all the cash raised compared to every other category on the crowdfunding platform. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That said, it\u2019s not surprising to say that tabletop games had an amazing crowdfunding rally on Kickstarter last year. A record 3,163 tabletop games projects were funded, while 1,319 games didn\u2019t manage to receive any funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Kickstarter also experienced a fantastic year in 2020, funding-wise, raising a record $730 million in crowdfunding campaigns across 37,581 campaigns.
