Estonian mobile game developer Clickwork Games announced that it netted $1.2 million in a seed funding round. VC firm Play Ventures<\/a> headed the investment round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, Joakim Achr\u00e9n, a famed angel investor, also participated in the round. Achr\u00e9n is also the founder of Elite Game Developers. Elite Game Developers provides support to independent developers who are struggling with their games and advice on how to make them successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clickwork Games is the first Estonia-based mobile game studio that is backed by investors from the games industry. The studio said the investment will be directed to “rejuvenate the idle genre.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We’re starting with idle games, a genre which has been overlooked and stagnated as the less glamorous sibling in the casual game family,” said M\u00e4nd. “It’s a shame because idle players retain well, are ready to pay, and there’s still plenty of room to innovate with deeper hybrid gameplay.”<\/p>

“Being backed by gaming veterans Play Ventures and Joakim Achr\u00e9n is a vote of confidence. Gaming has mostly eluded Estonia so far, but we plan to be an Estonian gaming success that spawns a whole new industry here,” M\u00e4nd added. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, with the money, Clickwork is looking to strengthen its development team by scaling up its operations and developing a portfolio of games. Idle Panzer has been in soft launch for some time now, and is expected to be released at the end of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clickwork is led by CEO and co-founder Marko M\u00e4nd, who also happens to the former co-founder of Levity Play and Hypestar Games. With the investment, M\u00e4nd hopes that to “kickstart” the gaming ecosystem in Estonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides, CEO M\u00e4nd, Eric Seufert, the founder of Mobile Dev Memo, has joined the studio as an advisor. Many former Hypester Games employees has also joined the company, including Kaaren Kaer, who is a game designer and co-founder of Clickwork Games as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Play Ventures founding partner Henric Suuronen also released a statement lauding Clickwork Games’ mission to develop casual games<\/a>. The VC firm recently revealed that it had raised $135 million for investing in game studios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
