Apogee Entertainment, the Duke Nukem developer, announced that it had secured a $5 million investment from the eWTP Tech Innovation Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the first time anyone has invested in the studio in its lengthy history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Apogee is looking for talent in the indie game sector, and the funding will be used to grow its staff for that purpose. In addition, the developer said the funding would also be utilized to expand the company’s business portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We really love Apogee’s proven track record of discovering new indie studios and nurturing their international success,” said eWTP partner CY Chen. “We’re honored to support their mission to find undiscovered talent and help create evergreen hits that can remain successful for decades.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
In 2021, Apogee launched its first-signed game, the sci-fi survival game Residual. According to its founders, it has since signed many more games. Its next game to be released will be FPS Turbo Overkill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Apogee Entertainment was formed in 1987 as Apogee Software and has created and published several indie games throughout the years. It’s responsible for popular titles such as Duke Nukem, Prey, and Shadow Warrior. The firm has also published games for developer studios, including id Software, Parallax Software, and Remedy Entertainment<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2021, the firm was relaunched under the direction of founder Scott Miller and longtime executive Terry Nagy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Terry Nagy, a longtime collaborator of Miller’s, bought the rights to the Apogee name in 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In other news, Virtuos<\/a>, a global game development, and creative services company based in Singapore, has acquired Ukrainian 2D\/3D art production studio Volmi Games<\/a> for an unknown sum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
