WINGS launches investment initiative for games by diverse teams

List

WINGS, known for spearheading the GDC Relief Fund and co-running the Elevate Accelerator, was delighted to officially announce its investment initiative during last Sunday’s Guerrilla Collective show.

As the WINGS core mission, this brings investment opportunities to game development teams whose key positions are held by women and developers from marginalised backgrounds.

Only 22% of game creators and 12% of game investors present as women. This is what drove WINGS co-founders Audrey Leprince (The Game Bakers and Women in Games France) and Petter Henriksson (Landfall Games) to offer project-based funding to diverse teams. Driven by a selection committee of outstanding game developers that are representative of the strength and diversity of the industry, investment decisions focus on each games’ content excellence and the diversity within each team. WINGS is a for-profit initiative, dedicated to supporting games that will be successful on the market. The success of diverse teams will lead to more unique ideas coming to life, new voices heard, and new games catering to a wider variety of tastes.

“The most impactful thing we can do is give access to resources — most importantly money, but also information and advice to developers who are systematically at a disadvantage for this access” said Audrey Leprince, WINGS co-founder

WINGS has been operating since 2018 and has already invested in four titles: the wholesome retirement community dating sim Later Daters, the point and click sleuthing adventure Lord Winklebottom Investigates, cyberpunk noir investigation adventure don’t_forget_me, and co-op arcade game Pushy and Pully in Blockland. More titles will be announced in the coming months, and WINGS is looking for more teams and games to support.
