Frost Giant Studios raises $4.7M in seed funding

The funding will be used to grow the team at Frost Giant, build out a prototype for gameplay, conduct consumer research, and expand operations altogether.

Real-time strategy players are an incredibly passionate community, and they deserve not just a great new game, but one they can share broadly with friends. Building a worthy successor will take time, but we’re incredibly excited and grateful to carry real-time strategy forward at Frost Giant Studios.

Tim Morten, Frost Giant CEO

Frost Giant Studios is a new game development studio co-founded by ex-Blizzard Entertainment veterans Tim Morten and Tim Campbell. Morten was the former production director on Blizzard’s Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void and spent the past six years at Blizzard. Campbell was the original lead campaign designer for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne in the early 2000s. Despite the dazzling success of these franchises a pair decided to leave Blizzard to work on another RTS.

The two developers have raised $4.7M in seed funding to get the effort off the ground. The funding was led by Bitkraft Ventures, and saw contributions from 1UP Ventures, GC Tracker, fellow dev studio Riot Games, and Griffin Gaming Partners as well. Frost Giant will use the money to grow the team, build a prototype for gameplay, conduct consumer research, and expand operations. The company will stay small, hiring maybe a couple of people in the next year.
