Potato Play closes $1.75m seed funding round

The company will use funds to scale its sourcing and marketing operations, and invest in its technology assets.

Potato Play is a Singapore-based publisher delivering mobile games from Asia to the worldwide market. The company has been founded on Jun 15, 2018, and has published 20 games that have been downloaded a combined 15 million times to date. Now the publisher announces that it has closed a $1.75 million seed funding round to help it pursue the next big trend in mobile games.

Asian game developers, with decades of experience in hardcore games, and the ability to execute and iterate quickly on trends, are an ideal fit to innovate in the hybrid-casual space

The funding was led by Beenext, which has investors in scores of tech outfits as well as Indian mobile esports platform MPL Gaming. Returning investors Atlas Ventures and Play Ventures, who invested $500,000 in pre-seed money in the company in January, also participated in the round.

Potato Play will try to work in the newfound “hybrid-casual” games genre and also will do the best to “take Asian games global”.
