The Dark Forest Calls
The Dark Forest Calls is a story-driven first-person survival horror game set on the isolated island of Psara.
Players explore abandoned settlements, forests and interiors while searching for supplies, weapons, keys and fragments of the island's history. The core gameplay loop combines exploration, resource management, objective progression and combat.
Combat features both melee and ranged weapons, including handguns, shotguns and hunting weapons. Enemies use a reactive AI system: they can detect light and sound, alert nearby enemies, investigate the player's last known position, patrol or guard specific areas, ambush the player and break through doors.
Progression is structured around interconnected sectors. Players explore an area, gather resources and lore, complete its main objective and eventually prepare for major generator-defense encounters. During these sequences, the player is given a limited preparation window before surviving an incoming horde and unlocking access to the next sector.
The game places strong emphasis on atmosphere and environmental storytelling, with a distinctive visual identity built around darkness, fog, abandoned religious spaces, hostile settlements and the mysteries surrounding Psara.
A heavily reworked public demo is currently available on Steam and represents the core direction of the full game. It includes exploration, combat, reactive enemy behavior, multiple enemy roles, resource management and a complete horde-survival sequence.
The demo currently supports English, Turkish and Japanese.
The project is being developed primarily by a solo developer under Black Amber Studio. Core gameplay systems are already implemented, while the full game is currently in production and undergoing content integration, level implementation, optimization and final testing.
The current target release window is Q4 2026, with October 27, 2026 as the planned release date. The game is also participating in the October Steam Next Fest.
