Nacon Buys Daedalic Entertainment For $60M

Nacon Daedalic Entertainment

Publisher Nacon revealed that it had acquired German developer Daedalic Entertainment for about $60 million (€53 million).

According to the deal, Nacon will initially pay $36.3 million (€32 million) in cash, and the remainder will be paid based on performances over the next five years ending in 2026.

That said, under the agreement, Nacon will eventually acquire 100 percent of the voting rights of Daedalic and its own in-house IPs.

Alain Falc, Nacon CEO, commented, “We knew, through our current collaboration on Gollum, that Nacon and Daedalic share the same values and the same objectives to deliver unique experiences to gamers. Therefore, it seemed logical to go further together, and we’re extremely happy with this acquisition. It represents a significant step in Nacon’s strategy.”

The deal is expected to be closed in 2022.

“After eventful years in which we always came out on top, I feel proud looking back at the past 15 years and the development of the company. Daedalic Entertainment has established itself as a publisher and developer of exceptional games across various genres and on all relevant platforms and has cemented that position globally. Together with Nacon, we are now taking the next step to further develop our catalogue of games created by our own team as well as many incredible indie studios. We are looking back at a trusting and cooperative collaboration on The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, and forward to an even brighter future together,” said Carsten Fichtelmann, founder and CEO, Daedalic Entertainment.

Founded in 2007, Daedalic Entertainment went on to publish games such as Witch It! and Unrailed! The developer also published games such as Hidden Deep.

Currently, Daedalic Entertainment is preparing to launch its upcoming game Lord of the Rings: Gollum, with Nacon publishing the title.

CEO Carsten Fichtelmann and COO Stephan Harms will continue to manage Daedalic Entertainment with a “high degree of autonomy” in game development and publishing.

The Daedalic Entertainment acquisition, as Nacon put it, is their largest purchase to date. The publisher very recently bought the France-based developer of JRPG Edge of Eternity Midgar Studio for an unknown sum.

In addition, Nacon’s other notable purchases in 2021 are indie developer Ishtar Games and Montreal-based developer of Session Creature Studios.

Nacon also acquired the Australian sports title developer Big Ant Studios for €35 million.
